Fish Caper Goes South - Juvenile Eagle Swallows the Fish - Decorah North - June 25, 2024
Dad delivers a fish that is promptly claimed by one of the juvenile eagles. Later it's sibling shows up and tries to snag the fish. There is a tug of war for the fish, which results in the owner swallowing the fish. Love watching these two young juvenile eagles interact, always entertaining.

Scout's Brief Visit - Lookout Post - NCTC Bald Eagle Nest - June 23, 2024

Scout arrives and lands on top of the lookout post. Based on Scout's plumage we can see he is undergoing a molt as he has lots of loose feathers. I wonder if his tiny dark feathers on his head will still be there this fall, we will have to wait and see. On the Field Cam one adult was perched nest side for the night, perhaps it was Bella or Scout or both. Lots of greenery blocking our view.

Fledge day for Lucky, congratulations Little One. This footage captures Lucky branching about the tree then taking flight away from the tree. The trio were very busy this morning wing flapping about the nest. At 748 am one of the juvies was standing near the edge of the nest and appeared to slip off the nest resulting in an accidental fledge. These young eagles are 10 weeks/ 75, 74 and 73 days old today. What a surprise it was yesterday morning... I was watching the Avon eagles nest cam when all of a sudden oh shucks off the nest he hopped... prayers for safety n flying... the eaglet became a Big eagle real fast
I think Dad was watching the whole time because he came in with nesting material.

Apparently they turn this cam off during stormy weather as a prevention method to protect the cam.

i've never heard a Nest branch break off from a Tree and now I have. Hope the temp nest is in place soon. They made and installed very good ones in Fla after hurricane Ian last fall--structurally sound. just needs some good support branches to anchor to. Thanks for Posting.

I updated the description all three eaglets were found alive and taken into S.O.A.R. for assessment if all goes well they will be returned to a newly built nest tomorrow. Prayers that all three survive.

Even though this was 6 yrs ago, it still has merit. The mother eagle saved her baby by digging around the nest and removing things in it's way. Eagles, cannot use their telon's to move and save their chicks nor their beaks.
What happened to the little family?
Unfortunately, new dad, Scout, killed both babies 😢 Hopefully 🙏 that he'll be mature by next season
